NETHERMOST CAVERNS – Shadows of Seclusion

NETHERMOST CAVERNS – Shadows of Seclusion

This fierce two-track demo by the brand-new US black metal outfit named Nethermost Caverns is one that contains heaps of promise and potential, and I was immediately attracted to its melancholy aura and melodic qualities the very first time I immersed myself in it. While ‘Shrouded in Funereal Grey’ is a mid-paced and deeply atmospheric piece that weaves a trance-inducing spell on the listener due to its memorable riffs and harsh vocals, ‘Black Wings of the Void’ is a more dynamic, musically varied, and aggressive composition that reminds me ever so slightly of ancient Gorgoroth and Forgotten Woods, which is obviously a huge compliment. Its rumbling basslines, excellent drumming, and unearthly vocals stand out here, and there are some wicked twists and turns along the way that are quite interesting.

As stated previously, Shadows of Seclusion bodes very well for the future, and I truly hope that these gentlemen will create and release more material together as this one is a pitch-black delight that warrants repeated listening. Raw and bone-chilling, pure and straight from the heart, and undoubtedly highly effective in terms of evoking a brooding and morose vibe, you ought to check this excellent release out if quality black metal inspired by the grim and bleak 90s is your thing.
