THIS MEANS WAR – Omnivore Doctrine

I love Gymnocal Industries; the label is as unpredictable as they come when it comes to styles and genres but what you can be certain of is that they deliver quality. A case in point is This Means War whose hyper-aggressive and energetic take on death metal is a real delight to immerse oneself in, especially after a long and horrible day at work. Omnivore Doctrine is the trio’s debut album, and it is a pummeling, modern-sounding, and vigorous affair that offers brutality, great riffs, and killer vocals. On top of that, the output is solid and cohesive, which basically means that it retains its momentum and lethal aura throughout, and the way in which they have incorporated traits from thrash metal and to a lesser extent black metal is admirable and adds some wicked flavors to the music. A little more groove and grit would have been nice, but that does not change the fact that this one is an explosive fucker. The gloomy and brooding ‘Deceit’ is a personal favorite and a cleverly written composition, and these Norwegian dudes have every right to be proud of Omnivore Doctrine. It bodes very well for the future.
