DIE TIRED – interview

DIE TIRED – interview

Die Tired is an American rock band from Reading, Pennsylvania and below is a nice quick interview in which the band introduces their music and influences and talk about future plans.

Introduce your band, and describe your latest release:

Originally derived from the old Marines adage: “You can run, but you’ll just die tired,” one might assume that their music has ominous undertones and potentially dark themes. Well, to Die Tired it is a punk rock way of saying, “Carpe diem!”

Being from various parts of the hills and streets of Pennsylvania, the members of Die Tired all bring their own specific flare and personality to the music. Each member has a slightly different taste in music, but in one way or another, these influences blend perfectly to breathe new life into some amazingly addictive alternative and pop rock sounds.

Our latest release is our single, “Play.” It’s a high energy and anthemic.

What’s the hardest part about being a band in this day and age?

Breaking out in a world that is super saturated with musicians and new music. In a way, it’s great that so many people have opportunities to stream and put their music out there. However, it creates such competition to be found by the masses without major support.

When did you realise that your project had the potential to be much more than just a fun idea?

From our live shows. They kept getting bigger and bigger and we quickly noticed the fans and crowds kept coming back. We love playing live and to get such positive feedback from the audience really pushed us to step our game up.

Tell us about your latest release, why should we check it out?

Combining anthemic instrumentals with emotional melodies, one cannot help but get wrapped up in the energy and imagery of PLAY.  From infectious grooves to dirty bass lines and memorable hooks, this is the high quality alt-rock you want to crank up with the windows down in the car or over a couple of beers with your best friends at the local watering hole.

Lead guitarist and vocalist Matt DeAngelis explains that Play is about “leaving the things that drag you down behind and pursuing what you love.  Taking the people you care about the most with you and leaning into the innocence and beauty that can be found in everyday life.  This song is about having fun and being free…go fall in love, skydive, travel the world; as long as it’s pure and it’s what you need.”

How does a song typically come together for you?

It varies. Sometimes someone will have a fully realized idea and bring it to practice. Other times, it comes from a jam at a practice or an improvisation at a show.

How would you describe your sound to an unfamiliar reader?

What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your band?

Die Tired is a multifaceted band, pulling inspiration from classic rock, heavy metal, pop punk, and just about anything else that they can play on a guitar! On stage, their upbeat and passionate performances always leave you wanting more. It’s impossible to not tap your foot, nod your head, or belt out the lyrics to their incredibly eclectic take on rock ‘n roll. It’s a good day to Die Tired!

We like the listeners to go on a journey. By design we write songs that vary in style, lyrical themes and energy. Our live show also has a spontaneous element to it with jam sessions and instrumentals to keep it fresh and people engaged.

Where would you really like to tour that you haven’t done so yet, and why?

Brazil. We’ve gotten a lot of radio play and great feedback from our Brazilian fans. It would be sick to head over for a run of shows or a festival to play live for them.

How would you say that the sound of your band has progressed over the years?

Line up changes brought in new musical ideas and themes, which has influenced our writing. Also adding a second guitarist with Sean Boyle has allowed us to expand our sound and arrangements.

How excited are you for 2023, and what can fans expect from you?

Very! We have a bunch of shows in the works and new material to be released. We can’t wait share our new songs with the world and play them live on stage for the first time.
