SOULCARRION – Infernal Agony

SOULCARRION – Infernal Agony

How does a pummeling and punishing 30-minute death metal record filled with gnarly riffs and hellish atmospheres sound? The Polish duo Soulcarrion deliver quality in spades here and “Infernal Agony” must be one of the darkest and most intense underground releases that I have gotten my filthy paws on recently. Despite the dissonant nature of the song material and its abhorrent and unearthly aura, the tracks are surprisingly catchy and instantly appealing. These guys are obviously not out there to revolutionize anything but rather to grind us all into dust and leave us rotting in the ground by means of raw, old-school death metal with several noteworthy nuances to it. Soulcarrion know the meaning of the word ‘dynamics’ and often vary the pace, and the horror-inspired feel of the entire package works like a malevolent charm. Incidentally, the piece named “Oblivion” contains of the most brilliant and majestic riffs that I have come across for a while and the buzzsaw sound of the guitars is killer. Harsh as fuck and totally recommended!
