LORDS OF FORM – Flying Chromium Society

What we have here is an incredibly diverse and musically eclectic space rock opus that conjures up a uniquely surreal atmosphere. Masterminded by the talented Niall Hone (ex-Hawkwind) and backed by a stellar cast of musicians, the song arrangements are never anything but inspired, and just the sheer quality of the riffs and melodies is enough to make me ecstatic whenever I spin this beautiful CD. There is plenty of depth to “Flying Chromium Society” and while words and phrases such as ‘otherworldly’, ‘progressive’, and ‘wonderful analogue soundscapes’ come to mind, I could easily throw another 648 positive adjectives at this ten-track offering. As much as I love the hard, punishing “Little Victories” and the dark, claustrophobic “This Dying World”, the cosmic dystopia and waves of synths that are “Anomalies” and the title track are to die for too, and the psychedelic space rock brilliance of album closer “The Electric White Highway” is a deft way to bow out. The pulsating melancholy of the emotionally charged “A Winters Bride” is the highlight of the whole thing to these ears.

“Flying Chromium Society” is a musically inventive and adventurous experience that delivers fantastic tunes that are as unpredictable as they are memorable. Support this awesome British act and head on over to their Bandcamp webpage to check their excellent slab of retro/futurist music out.
