ROBIN RED – Robin Red

Swedish vocalist Robin Red (Degreed) released this enjoyable slab of hook-laden rock music just a few weeks ago and the result is most definitely a satisfying one in that it boasts strong song material and a genuine sense of passion and joy throughout. The awesome Dave Dalone (H.E.A.T.) provided guitars and also acted as producer and co-songwriter, and I sincerely hope that Red and Dalone will do something together again someday because this self-titled 12-track effort is charming as hell.
The promo information that accompanied the record lists artists such as Foreigner and Rick Springfield as sources of inspiration and one can easily hear that, but I could also see fans of Perfect Plan and the aforementioned H.E.A.T. getting a kick out of Robin’s memorable tunes. "Don’t Leave Me (With a Broken Heart)", "Can’t Get Enough", and "Living Dead" are infectiously catchy and are just begging to be played both live on stage and in the radio. Red’s brand of melodic hard rock possesses warmth, soul, and atmosphere, and although there are a couple of dreadfully cliched tracks to be found here ("Freedom" and "Reason to Survive"), the overall result is impressive, and the entire musical affair packs a punch and is expertly produced. I will definitely be revisiting this one again as most of the LP consists of pure ear candy, gorgeous melodies, and anthemic riffs. Original or innovative? No, but wickedly entertaining and superbly executed.
