PROFESSOR TIP TOP – Tomorrow is Delayed

Ah yes, this is just what the good prog rock doctor ordered: a brand-new offering by the playful and eclectic (or is that eccentric?) purveyors of warm, moving music with a cosmic vibe to it. “Tomorrow is Delayed” by the Norwegian ensemble known as Professor Tip Top is exhilaratingly cool and lively, and there is an otherworldly quality to its eight vibrant compositions that is not THAT far removed from what Tangerine Dream were once doing. In many ways, it feels as if this strange but charming output exists outside time and space, and I truly dig the evocative vocals and clever arrangements.
Thanks to its wicked (and slightly fuzzy) synthesizers, impressive melodies, countless interesting nuances, and bags of emotional substance, this record strikes the perfect balance between being melancholic and uplifting. Above all, it is a varied and dynamic opus and an inspired listen with a fabulous flow to it. Just listen to the gorgeous title track and its insistent drive or the hauntingly beautiful “Inside the Mirror” – how awesome are they?! An admirable anomaly or a cosmic musical triumph? You choose but the bottom line is that this is a must-have.
