BURIAL HORDES – ΘΑΝΑΤΟΣ ΑΙΩΝΙΟΣ (Τhe Termination Thesis)

The Greek purveyors of impenetrably dark and murky black/death metal known as Burial Hordes released this evocative and at times riveting 6-song opus of theirs via Folter Records late last year and is a force to be reckoned with.

Sound-wise the fouls-spirited hymns that constitute the record veer towards old-school death metal, but the venomous and sulfur-infused atmosphere is sufficiently sinister for one to make the claim that this is predominantly a black metal offering. Unsettling melodies with a dissonant edge to them, doom-like breakdowns that will melt your ugly face, and utterly rotten vocals go hand in hand here and conjure up a vivid image of hellish dimensions beyond this mortal coil. The entire affair may be fiery and hard-hitting, but there is a good balance between brutality and a borderline elegant sense of satanic grandeur, which is perhaps best exemplified by "Lurk in the Shadows". If you are on the lookout for something truly twisted and nasty, check the cut entitled "Human Condition" out then.

"ΘΑΝΑΤΟΣ ΑΙΩΝΙΟΣ (Τhe Termination Thesis)" is not the most inventive or stunning set of blackened tunes you will come across, but it is nonetheless a compelling piece of work that delivers its destructive message with a sense of impact and urgency to it. Recommended!
