The Italian ensemble that is Derdian performs symphonic and galloping power metal that is quite fun and entertaining to listen to albeit a tad stereotypical and cliched in places too. I dig the drama, bombast, and theatricality of this 13-track effort and the fact that is is slightly pompous at times is both charming and strangely endearing. There are a number of memorable tracks with great hooks to them to be found on "DNA", namely the infectious "Hail to the Masters", the hard-hitting title track, and the atmospheric "False Flag Operation", that ought to thrill all you lovers of fist-pumping metal out there.
Fortunately, the production is a little bit rougher and more lively and vibrant compared to what many other modern power metal acts tend to opt for, which is great, and what these guys may lack in originality, they more than make up for in terms of sheer enthusiasm and energy. These dudes are without doubt skilled musicians and they clearly have a firm grasp of how to write tunes with a sense of excitement and passion to them.
Again, this is hardly innovative stuff, but if bands such as Lords of Black, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Rhapsody, and the likes appeal to you, then check "DNA" out as it is a solid and confident record with a lot of cool moments to it.
