The Italian post-black metal/doom metal mongers known as Deadly Carnage have spat forth a brand new 9-track soundtrack to the end of days. With a somewhat metaphysical approach to both the music and lyrics not to mention some strong and prevalent cosmic vibes coursing through the entire musical affair, "Through the Void, Above the Suns" is a layered and textured effort that is pretty fucking unpleasant to listen to in places. While there is certainly no shortage of aggressive outburst to be found on the disc, the majority of passages contain many subtle nuances and details. The record walks that fine line between sounding grand and claustrophobic, which is not necessarily an easy thing to achieve or master. Crushing riffs, apocalyptic vocals, rumbling and blackened bass lines, earth-shattering drums, and strong melodies are what Deadly Carnage are all about, and the great thing about this superb disc of theirs is that it is consistently murky from start to finish and retains its dark aura all the way through. Not surprisingly, quite a few of the sections and parts are dissonant and bleak, but the production is much more organic than what one is accustomed to when it comes to this particular musical genre (or blending of genres, if you will).

"Through the Void, Above the Suns" is dense and moody, but also memorable and its unsettling vibe is strangely appealing. The standout track is the diverse and all-out stellar piece entitled "Ifene", which is just totally awesome for lack of a better word, but the album as a whole is utterly captivating and rarely loses momentum. Regardless of whether you are into Solstorm and Monolith or Isis and Neurosis, this album is worthy of your time and ought to be explored and investigated in more detail.
