THE FERRYMEN – The Ferrymen

THE FERRYMEN – The Ferrymen

The brand new outfit named The Ferrymen, which features Ronnie Romero (Lords Of Black, Rainbow), Magnus Karlsson (Magnus Karlsson’s Free Fall, Primal Fear) on guitars, and Mike Terrana (Tarja, Rage, Axel Rudi Pell, Vision Divine) on drums, is a most welcome addition to the power metal genre. With an emphasis on epic melodies, soaring vocals, and majestic riffs, there is a lot to love about The Ferrymen if bombastic heavy metal is right up your alley.

The opening track "End of the Road" immediately sets the tone with its Dio-esque vocals, sweeping melodies, and grandiose atmosphere. Wrapped in a powerful production and full of memorable parts, there is very little not to like about this tune. Luckily, the rest of this self-titled debut album is more or less in that very same vein as the aforementioned song. Many of the tracks benefit from huge choruses and monstrously heavy parts that will serve as the answers to all your pure metal prayers. Highlights include the emotionally tinged "One Heart", the beautifully haunting "Eternal Night", and the crunchy "Darkest Hour".

Needless to say, the musicianship is excellent. Romero delivers a wonderfully passionate vocal performance throughout and while Karlsson shreds on top of Terrana’s excellent drumming. Heck, even the guitar solos are memorable. The keyboard work is superb, too. This is quality metal and highly consistent from start to finish, folks. You know what to do!
