TREAT – The Road More or Less Traveled – Live in Milano
The melodic hard rock outfit from Sweden named Treat recently released the rather entertaining and highly professional CD/DVD release of theirs entitled "The Road More or Less Traveled" via the Italian label Frontiers. As far as I know, this is the first release in a series of live albums and videos captured at the Frontiers Rock Festival. If the others will be as good as this one then I think we will be in for a treat (no pun intended).
What is evident on this release and displayed throughout each of its fourteen tracks is that these five musicians are insanely talented. The musicianship is simply superb. The way in which the keyboards by Jona Tee (H.E.A.T.) and Anders Wikstrøm’s guitars come together and pull apart in places is mind-blowing. Solid and yet inventive drumming courtesy of Jamie Borger, a great and very passionate vocal performance by Robert Ernlund, and the thick, pulsating groove of Pontus Egberg’s bass playing make this a really cool listening experience. As to the selection of songs, I have no complaints whatsoever. "Better the Devil You Know", "Gimme One More Night", "Conspiracy", and "Get You On the Run" sound excellent and are the standout cuts here in my opinion. The sound is crisp and clear and yet heavy and powerful, so there is nothing wrong in that department either. The tunes flow together quite naturally and there is very little time wasted between them, which is always a plus.
If epic and somewhat bombastic hard rock with a strong emphasis on melody is your thing then check out this awesome live document. (Note: Given that I only received the audio files, I cannot comment on the DVD/blu ray part of the release, so you will have to check that one out yourself and see what it is like).
