PRIMORDIAL – Gods to the Godless (Live at Bang Your Head Festival Germany 2015)

Hard to debate the integral quality of Irish Celtic folk/black metal act Primordial. Culling material from eight studio albums, "Gods of the Godless" is an 11-song, 81-minute live representation of the epic power qualities that make these gentlemen legendary. Reaching as far back as the title track from 2000’s "Spirit the Earth Flame" record, it’s natural that "To the Nameless Dead" gets a lion’s share of airing, because it’s hard to dispute the intense force and cultural anthem appeal to songs like "As Rome Burns" and "Heathen Tribes". Newer material such as "The Alchemist’s Head" and "Babel’s Tower" showcases the deeper shades of metal affinity the members produce, especially from a darker, true doom perspective.

A.A. Nemtheanga possesses the right amount of epic vitality and despair, you can feel the emotion dripping from every word uttered. Those in the know will immediately buy, those who have yet to hear or experience Primordial, "Gods to the Godless" is a prime spot to start. One of the rare bands that still induces chills every listen – something every band should aspire to accomplish.
