HERETIC – Underdogs of the Underworld

HERETIC – Underdogs of the Underworld

20 years on and self-proclaimed Black Metal Punks Heretic are still churning out the dirtiest rocking beats this side of Hell. I first met their brand of punked-up Black n Roll on 2013’s ‘Angelcunts and Devilcocks’ and was impressed by how simple yet effective their approach was. This is the type of music that delivers all the goods at first encounter, and yet for some reason still remains fresh and fun and something the listener will return to. Having said that, this method of composing and producing music also makes Heretic something of a one trick pony, and I find that I have less time for them this time around than I did on the predecessor. And to be honest, I am having difficulty deciding whether this album isn’t as good as the one before or whether I find it a bit stale because I have heard the joke before. The answer is probably somewhere between the two. Either way, I will continue returning to ‘Angelcunts and Devilcocks’ and will probably pass on this one…
