SEER – Vol. 1 & 2

Sludgy, expansive doom on offer here in the full length debut of Vancouver’s Seer. I am not a great fan of doom, and this album won’t do much to change that I’m afraid. What we have here are some heavy tracks that take their sweet time building – but the building isn’t that impressive when it is finished. In parts this is a an fairly solid attempt at some epic doom and so many things are in the right place – sabbathian riffing, strong clean vocals, Reverend Bizarre level of heaviness and killer production. Ultimately though, this one was too heavy for take-off and never really grabbed my heart or balls. There is a good band in there and the future will probably see them becoming a fixture in the firmament of doom. Just not right now for me….
