THE SUMMIT – Higher Ground

Featuring 220 Volt guitarist Mats Karlsson, Easy Action drummer Björn Höglund, plus vocalist Michael Klemmé and bassist Lars Ericsson, The Summit on their debut album "Higher Ground" reach back into the 1970’s for a hard rock record that’s bluesy, heavy, and very melodic while also possessing a modern production touch. A Queen aspect in the guitar harmonies and sultry drum groove makes "One Way Highway" an immediate head turner, while psychedelic and laid back textures on the follow up "Circle the Sun" showcase another side to The Summit cause.
Catchy choruses and infectious guitar playing make "Only Human" and the title track other obvious strong cuts – but really there isn’t a disappointment out of the 10 songs present. When you have seasoned musicians with a game plan and the ability to project it sonically without ripping off any of their influences, that’s the makings of a stellar record. "Higher Ground" is perfect for those who love the smoothness of Journey but the feel of everything from Bad Company to Queen to Whitesnake – all with a current punch in terms of production techniques.
