KATAKLYSM – Of Ghosts and Gods

The 12th studio album from Canada’s Kataklysm, "Of Ghosts of Gods" has an even more commercial melodeath feel than their last album "Waiting for the End to Come". Possibly even modern in spots for the down-tuned opening guitar hook choice within "Thy Serpents Tongue", tracks like "Breaching the Asylum" and "Carrying Crosses" take on a touch more tribal Soulfly meets mid-90’s Soilwork influence that when adding in the normal hyperblast sections just sounds weaker than expected.
Since passing this 10 song record through the ears five times, "Of Ghost and Gods" sadly could appeal more to the commercial fringes than the long-timers. Understandable that most musicians have every right to grow, develop, and change as experience sets in- but the diehards don’t have to accept this- and probably won’t.
