GRENOUER – Unwanted Today

After taking in this Russian alternative metal/ rock band Grenouer with their 2013 release "Blood on the Face", I can’t say that I was overly excited to hear this eighth studio album "Unwanted Today". Sure, if you don’t mind hearing similar recycled fare like "I Can’t Stand It" and "A Little Too Obsessed" mirror Sevendust, Linkin Park, and any host of modern rock acts that plague North American radio these days. Andrey Ind has one of those semi-emo deliveries to his vocals that make "On a Rainy Day" and the very down-tuned, staccato thumping "Point of No Return" irritating and whiny as my interest wanes with every passing track.
13 tracks in 40 minutes of time I wish I could get back, Grenouer have evolved from thrash/death metal to industrial and now what passes for commercially accepted heaviness these days – but it doesn’t mean that the masses have to buy into this.
