CAPILLA ARDIENTE – Bravery, Truth, and the Endless Darkness

South American doom metal? Capilla Ardiente is my first foray from Chile in the doom realm – fortunately for us, "Bravery, Truth, and the Endless Darkness" contains 6 cuts of pure classic ecstasy. A love of Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, and Mercyful Fate comes into focus taking in four 10 minute plus tracks as well as two instrumental interludes. The quartet march to the beat of fear, anguish, and slumber – making "Nothing Here for Me", "Towards the Midnight Ocean" and "Into Unknown Lands" odes to epic bliss.

Bassist C. Botarro Neira is front and center like Geezer Butler, while vocalist F. Plaza Kutzbach has an earthy quality while comfortably sending Robert Lowe-ish chills at times. Concentrating more on their studio craft than being a live entity, Capilla Ardiente has a strong foundation to build upon. You want 80’s doom with evil qualities – "Bravery, Truth, and the Endless Darkness" is a platter that could make any hot summer night feel like arctic winter in 45 minutes.
