SUBLIRITUM – Downfall

SUBLIRITUM – Downfall

Subliritum are far more than your average melodic black metal band. For a start, they have broken the mould by employing riffs and runs that would normally only be found in the very best technical death metal. Then, we have their ability to throw together a rocking tune. The guys can be crushingly fast and heavy at one moment, then suddenly create a groove that will have you nodding your head/playing airdrums/shaking your fist at the heavens/draining your beer and launching into a pit (delete as applicable) the next moment.

The production is crystal, meaning all of the energy gets to your ears with a minimum of interference and you can hear every nuance and trill. On top of that, Vyl from Keep of Kalessin sits atop the drum stool on all of ‘Downfall’ reminding poor sinners like me who have stopped listening to his day band how good he really is. VERY good.

Another reason this record works for me is the variety of material. Even though all of the tracks are pretty similar in style, the songs are each full of dynamic changes – breakdowns, blast sections, mid-paced thrash, groove etc etc. Subliritum’s musical sensibilities are well-honed and their talent as musicians rich enough to allow them to create songs that excite and engage without letting up for a second.

Bored with a load of DM and BM clones who think sounding like everyone else is a USP? Check out these guys
