SOLSTICE – Death’s Crown is Victory

SOLSTICE – Death’s Crown is Victory

A 4 song EP that serves as a re-introduction for this UK epic doom metal band, Solstice return to remind us how classic and timeless their sound really is. 26 minutes later, the five-piece leave you salivating for more. Guitarist Richard W. Walker remains the lone original member – but he’s assembled an ace group of musicians that rivet through ample twin harmonies, somber riff choices, steady tempos and rhythms, plus the tremendous chill-bump, majestic melody work of Paul Kearns.

"Fortress England" serves as an opening instrumental, with the centerpiece tracks "I Am the Hunter" and the title cut beautifully demanding rapt attention, 9 minute plus arrangements that echo traditional and cultural themes. Many will think of the early years of Grand Magus and Doomsword, but understand Solstice’s start at 1990 and you will see that epic doom metal never dies, and never becomes trendy.

A preview into the next full length album, "Death’s Crown is Victory" is a hefty rally cry that proves metal’s never ending strength and commitment, unapologetic and resolute with axes, drums, and voice at hand.
