Limited to 500 copies on vinyl only, the first album from progressive power metal veterans Steel Prophet "The Goddess Principle" put their sound on the map for international audiences to savor. Imagine the cross of East Coast shifting chord structures along with the high pitch vocal acrobatics from Rick Mythiasin that many liken to John Arch (Fates Warning) meets John Cyriss (Agent Steel). Yes they loved Iron Maiden and early Fates Warning, but also incorporated a lot of progressive harmonic twists and tempo changes that would rival the best speed acts.
Check out the twisted "Devoid of Logic" with the haunting background vocals and charging guitar riffs, as well as the epic 7:42 "Reign of Christ" that bulldozes through its galloping opening into a semi-doom/ power stance and know that this band is not your typical ‘happy’ power act. Glad to see them still soldiering forward, and with a new studio album scheduled to hit the streets in the spring, it would be a good time to scoop this up.
