RED FANG – Whales and Leeches

"Whales and Leeches" is the third album from Portland bruisers Red Fang. Mostly clean vocals and a dose of punky stonerism mixed with classic metal gives rise to something that sounds like Mastodon might if they could get Brann Dailor to calm down for ten minutes.

At times the songs are straight-rockin with melodic, anthemic chorsuses, while at others the band goes a little towards sludge territory and the approach becomes a little less direct and lost my attention a bit. Still, there is plenty here to get the foot tapping and the head bangin and definitely enough strong points to make this one to recommend.
