THE JASSER ARAFATS – Aftermath EP

What a unique name for a brutal death/ thrash outfit. Following up their 2010 "Condemnation" album, this is a quick hitting 4 song EP barely making it past a quarter of an hour. Vocally definitely in the deep Finnish/ Swedish death mold (think Edge of Sanity meets early Amorphis), songs like "Koma" and "Traitors" mix things up in the riff and rhythm department, with crushing results to the positive. The title cut that closes the record meets somewhere in the middle of Slayer and Hypocrisy, the back and forth riffs and tradeoffs from M. Pekkonen and J. Liukkonen along with the sudden S. Hautamaki bass break make for pure underground gold.
Teasers like this build anticipation for another full length- The Jasser Arafats balance the abrasive aspects with strong riffing and potent songwriting, making "Aftermath" a winning effort.
