WOLVSERPENT – Perigea Antahkarana

WOLVSERPENT – Perigea Antahkarana

I find it somewhat difficult to label and elaborate on the style and content of Wolvserpent’s music, but I guess it would be fair to say that the duo incorporates elements of doom metal, drone, and ambient into their exciting and highly atmospheric blend of music. I can even detect a few black- and death metal influences here and there. "Perigea Antahkarana" isn`t easily accessible as such, and yet it contains just the right amount of catchy and moving passages and parts that will suck you in right from the beginning and leave you wanting for more.

All the compositions are hauntingly beautiful in their own obscure way. There`s a cinematic quality to the music that cannot be denied. It is at times emotional and at other times ugly and twisted, but whatever it is I`m not left untouched by the brilliant soundscapes that the talented people who are behind Wolvserpent have conjured up. The string arrangements are superb, the guitars are beyond doomy and crushing, the vocals evoke an unsettled and unsettling atmosphere, and the whole thing just reeks of greatness!

"Perigea Antahkarana" contains 5 long pieces and a total runtime of an hour and 20 minutes, which is pretty damn hard to digest in one take, but it`s well worth it when one is in the mood for a long and reflective journey into darkness and melancholy. Every open-minded listener should give this album a chance. I love this and I discover new stuff and layers whenever I get lost in this opus.
