FANTHRASH – Apocalypse Cyanide

Here is a 3 song EP from the Polish technically sharp thrash meets cyber-like quintet Fanthrash- the follow up to their 2011 album "Duality of Things". One cannot fault the professionalism and work ethic of guitarist Grezegorz Obroslak- the main songwriter, co-producer, cover artist and graphic designer who makes the CD look and sound like the real deal you would expect from the major metal labels.
Getting down to the three songs: the title track, "Vitality", and "Outcasts from Cassiopeia" showcase the band moving into outer world dynamics with their sound- I hear elements of D.B.C., Voivod, Gojira and Meshuggah infiltrating their songwriting. The drum hits are a little more groovy, the choruses sharper, the riffs gaining a little more immediacy and the solo breaks very jazzy and inspiring. At 14 minutes you can rest assured the material tantalizes in a way that keeps your brain returning for more, and I feel like Less on vocals has worked a little harder to be clearer when called for, and fierce when necessary ("Outcasts from Cassiopeia" being some of his best melodies to date).
A great step in the right direction, those who love progressive thrash with a lot of down-tuned hooks should seek out "Apocalypse Cyanide".
