TOXIC HOLOCAUST – From the Ashes of Nuclear Destruction

Joel Grind and his one-man inferno Toxic Holocaust has raised some eyebrows since the inception back in 1999 with its furious mix of speed/thrash/black influenced metal. He has since then expanded his lineup with an additional drummer and basist but this compilaiton called "From The Ashes of Nuclear Destrucion" that contains various splits/demos and Ep´s are primarly recordings made and performed by Mr Grind himself.

Personally I have allways had an soft spot for the primitive but effective music of Toxic Holocaust and this compilation adds nicely to the overall that impression. The songs are as mentioned primitive and raw in performance but fully loaded in intensity and atmosphere. You dont get any Malmsteen solo´s or high pitched Halford screams, just pure evil roughness.

The influences of TH´s thrashier side is from early 80´s Sodom & Company and the black metal feeling is a pure tribute to the mighty Bathory´s early recordings. A perfect mix that never looses the intensity. One interesting aspect is to hear the different vocal styles utilized since this compilation collects meterial that  streches out over quite some time. Mr Grind have an quite impressive vocal when he goes for it.

"From The Ashes of Nuclear Destruction" is a recommended listen to both Toxic Holocaust and early Teutonic thrash fans alike.
