INDOMITE – Theater Of Time

INDOMITE – Theater Of Time

This six-piece progressive metal act from Columbia may have started with Spanish language material, but make the transition to English work appear seamless on their debut album "Theater of Time". Featuring a multi-pronged vocal attack (strong, clear clean main vocals from Santiago Giraldo, gruff growls from guitarist Juan Carlos Sanchez), the 9 songs encapsulate musicianship of a very high caliber, melody throughout in terms of addictive riffing, graceful keyboard parts and a rhythm section who balance out prowess with solid groove structure.

Some of the guitar riffing is of a heavier, almost power thrash variety- "Parasite (Symbiotic)" and "Pharaoh" rivaling say Tad Morose meets Iced Earth/ Paradox, while at other times Indomite reach back into a galloping nature with harmonic nuances- almost Germanic in their approach on "Awaking The Gods". The 12 minute plus closer "The Curtain That Will Never Fall" has a lot of slower, progressive movements that remind me of Germany’s Superior while Santiago’s feel is similar to Terence Holler of Italy’s Eldritch.

I for one am pleased as punch that I didn’t hear another Dream Theater or Symphony X clone in Indomite. The world doesn’t tend to reward those who bravely go where no one else attempts to go musically, so it could be a slow building process for "Theater of Time" to gain attention from the progressive metal community. But if you like a sextet of musicians who possess obvious instrumental knowledge and couple things with proper arrangement smoothness, this could be a surprise hit of your collection.
