LAVETT – Find Your Purpose

LAVETT – Find Your Purpose

Swedish guitar based modern metal here from the quintet Lavett. The most prominent member to those in the melodic/ power metal realm would be vocalist Daniel Heiman- who worked with the mighty Lost Horizon a decade or so before. Rounding out the lineup with members who’ve been in Sundown, Cemetary, Beseech, Dead By April, and Nightrage in their lifetime- "Find Your Purpose" is succinct in its songwriting and highly commercial and calculated with its instantaneous grooves, dynamic breaks, and obvious easy on the ear melodies.

One exposure to "Hold On", the Linkin Park-esque "Can’t You Hear Me", and bottom end, Sevendust meets Hoobastank "Blessing for Life" tells you Lavett loves the North American heavy modern music movement. Do we really need another act of this ilk? Daniel could scream or sing these lines in a semi-induced coma given his incredible voice- so why does he resort to nursery rhyme-like patterns for the chorus to the closer "The Mark".

I realize as musicians grow older and mature their tastes change and grow in new directions. "Find Your Purpose" regresses rather than stretches due to its affinity to fit in with the times. Maybe the current generation will find something worthwhile to treasure about this, but anyone over the age of 30 will probably take this modern metal act and delete this sound from digital existence.

As for me, I think a round of "Awakening The World" will wash away this bad dream.
