HALLADROL – The Last Mile On Earth EP

Soulgrind’s Lord Heikkinen created Halladrol to be more of his own distinct avant-garde death/doom vision. This 3 song, 19 minute EP is atmospheric, doomy, heavy and full of growls and eerie clean vocal parts- but most of all not just a series of paste and cut riffs like assembly-line pieces. “Black New Stars” at 3:54 is the shortest cut, but probably the most aggressive with its black metal nuances against blast beats. “No Rest For The Holy” opens with semi-Gregorian chants before this long, doom-filled series of chords fills up the aural landscape- Lord Heikkinen summoning his evil demon voice to equal the down-tuned, atmospheric proceedings.
A good introduction to Halladrol’s sound- expect a full length album in 2013. Haunting and multi-layered, “The Last Mile On Earth” blends the best sounds the underground has to offer.
