BEGGARS & THIEVES – We Are The Brokenhearted

An early 90’s hard rock act who released two major label efforts before the grunge scene effectively killed any hope of mass appeal for Beggars & Thieves. Re-launching around last year’s English Firefest Festival, here we have the third studio album “We Are The Brokenhearted”- a 10 song collection of classic hard rock with modern sensibilities. Artists like King’s X, Enuff Z’nuff, and Saigon Kick come to mind with material like “Beautiful Losers”, “We Come Undone” and “Wash Away”.

There’s too much acoustic action going on for my liking, and the psychedelic elements give Beggars & Thieves a retro feel. After multiple spins “We Are The Brokenhearted” weighs too heavily on my brain, which isn’t the purpose behind good, old school hard rock.
