WINDBRUCH – Collision Of The Worlds

Windbruch is a one man act hailing from Russia, fronted by I.O. Musically, we are talking shoegazing/depressing black metal here, based around a concept of seven songs linked to seven days with a bonus track cover of an Akira Yamaoka piece. Given that there is no lyric sheet, I can’t tell you any more about the concept than that, I’m afraid.

So. Expect lots of samples of wind and rain and passages of picked acoustic guitar with the traditional high-pitched BM parts thrown in here and there.

While the production is clear and modern and there are times when you feel the songs are going to actually go somewhere, this is ultimately a pretty mediocre release. The sound effects are too intrusive and you don’t get the feeling that I.O. has integrated all of the different elements seamlessly and coherently enough to make "Collision of Worlds" a real contender. Try "A Collapse of Faith" by October Falls if you want to see the same kind of thing done as it should be.
