HOLY MARTYR – Invincible

HOLY MARTYR – Invincible

Third album from this Italian epic metal brigade. “Invincible” tackles Japanese warrior subject matter – perfect for the charging guitars, pounding rhythms and larger than life melodies. Some of the material is slower and brooding such as “Ghost Dog”, while other songs have this Far Eastern overtone such as Nicola Pirroni’s bass propelling “Shichinin No Samuri” or thunderous Daniele Ferru drum maneuvers for “Sekigahara”.

Remindful of Omen and Virgin Steele with a fuller production, “Invincible” should delight those who love racing guitar duals and battle lyrics. Some of the tempos are a tad repetitive and I feel they could chop down some of the songwriting, but overall this didn’t disappoint and sticks to the metal without overblown theatrical interludes.
