OLIVER WEERS – Evil’s Back

Danish singer who has a head start in the business through his public exposure on The X-Factor television talent show. Assembling musicians from Greece and his native Denmark, “Evil’s Back” is the second album in Oliver’s career. These 11 songs straddle the fence between conventional European hard rock with a strong emphasis on guitar riffs and melodies (a la Rainbow, At Vance or Pretty Maids) and a more modern meets Stone Temple Pilots groove rock motif. A tough sell I think as both audiences are very distinct in their expectations. Which means songs like “Much Too Much” and “All My Life” have more life and energy to them then “Hero” or “Without You” that seem cliché and quickly written efforts.
Oliver certainly has stellar pipes, I just wish he would keep his voice in more of the classic European mold as we don’t need another singer excelling above the pedestrian radio rock material…
