ANOTHER MOON & SICK SAD WORLD – Ruins of Forgotten World (split)

Sebastian Lombard of Another Moon describes his music as ‘progressive post-hardcore’. The sound is something like Isis or Neurosis, but with a softer, more ambient approach. Guitar glides over heavily layered passages of keyboard in what could as just as readily be called ‘movements’ as songs. Percussion comes and goes too as the tracks move towards their inevitable climax.

Personally, this is not the kind of thing I would ever buy, but it is effective enough, and fans of the genre could probably add another star to the above rating.

Tracks 4 to 6 are from Sick Sad World. Their approach is a little less electronic and a little bit more direct with clean guitars building up to distorted choruses with scream style vocals. I found this part of the split didn’t do too much for me. Even though Sick Sad World are good at what they do it really isn’t my cup of tea.
