Florida death core act Catalepsy unleash their second album “Bleed”, a 37 minute, 22 second exercise in modern youth punishment. Songs like “Vexation” and “Goliath” add a touch of dissonant guitar chord nuances to the large grooves, breakdowns and the sandpaper gruff screams of vocalist Rick Norman. I hear the anger and yet struggle to retain any full songs. Suicide Silence and Emmure are reference points, but much better at their songwriting than Catalepsy at this juncture of their career.
The slower, down tuned madness of “Cthnonian” would be an area this act should consider to explore if they want a chance at a longer band lifeline with the next album.
