Graspop Metal Meeting – Press Release 5 – Monday 23 March 2009

CHICKENFOOT – UFO – FLYLEAF – THE RECKONING – CANDLEMASS – KARMA TO BURN- LAUREN HARRIS – STATIC X et MANIC MOVEMENT are the last few names to be added to this year's lineup.

CHICKENFOOT is probably one of the least well-known bands of this year's lineup but make no mistake: they're a quality act! Chickenfoot is a project by Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar. Together with Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Michael Anthony (ex-Van Halen) and Joe Satriani, he will be introducing GMM to the band's new album, which is set to be released this summer.

Chickenfoot is slotted on Sunday 28 June.

UFO has also been added to the Sunday schedule. This British heavy metal band has been around for over 30 years and they've inspired such metal heroes as Steve Harris, Kirk Hammett and Dave Mustaine.

Also confirmed: STATIC X and LAUREN HARRIS for Friday 26 June, MANIC MOVEMENT for Saturday 27 June and CANDLEMASS, FLYLEAF, THE RECKONING and KARMA TO BURN for Sunday 28 June.

For 11 editions of Graspop Metal Meeting, festival park ‘Boeretang' was the metal mecca par excellence. This year, however, we're saying goodbye to our home sweet home: the festival site has moved all of… 300 yards! The former campsite has been selected as the location for the new ‘Stenehei' festival park.

A new location also means an entirely new approach. Below we have listed all novelties for GMM2009.

The festival arena still consists of the MAIN STAGE, MARQUEE 1, MARQUEE 2 and the METAL DOME. Marquee 1 has grown significantly in size, whereas Marquee 2 and the Metal Dome have been moved to the same tent, albeit with separate stages.

The metal market and the festival fair have been relocated to a separate site adjoining the actual arena.

Also, the location of the token stands and the toilet blocks will be carefully selected with a view to avoiding long queues.

24h ZONE

Lodged in between the festival arena and the campsite there is a large 24h ZONE with booze tents, toilet blocks, an info stand, token stands, a restaurant, cash points and lots of side animation.

Moreover, the Metal Dome stays open for metal business until 6am!

This zone also houses the MAIN BOX OFFICE.  This is where fans must exchange their festival tickets for a wristband if they wish to access either the campsite or the festival arena. Contrary to last year, festival tickets DO NOT grant access to the campsite. All festival tickets must first be exchanged for a wristband at the main box office.

The campsite is now located right next to the festival arena. This means campers can access the arena via the 24h zone. The campsite has grown into a full-size village with its own Carrefour Express shop, toilet blocks, shower tent, festihuts, etc.!

The campsite opens at 4pm on Thursday 25 June and will stay open for the duration of the festival. Only fans in possession of a wristband are allowed onto the campsite. Please remember to collect your wristband because you'll need it in order to enter the campsite.

There are several car parks at walking distance from both the festival arena and the campsite. Combi ticket holders who have pitched their tents on the campsite can leave their cars in our WEEKEND car park, free of charge. Day ticket holders are required to park in the DAY parking area (5€/car).

Only motorhomes, caravans and trailer tents are allowed on the motorhome campsite.

Converted vehicles and estate cars are NOT allowed. Campers must book and pay for their pitch in advance. Don't wait too long because the number of pitches is limited! More info:

In collaboration with Intro, an organisation that makes festivals accessible to the disabled, Graspop Metal Meeting puts in a great effort to make the festival an enjoyable experience for anyone with a disability: a dedicated car park near the campsite and the festival arena, wheelchair platforms, a loop system for people with a hearing aid, ADD staff, an ADD camping with special facilities, …

If you wish to make use of these facilities, please contact All information on these facilities is available on our website:

Your festival ticket still includes free train travel to Mol train station. The return journey is also free for all festival ticket holders. Use of the shuttle coaches that travel between the station and the festival park is also free of charge. You can read the terms related to free public transport here:

Due to the huge success among our foreign guests, we have decided to expand our shuttle services. AirExpressBus will replace Graspop vzw as the organiser of the festival's coach shuttle service. AirExpressBus provides airport shuttle services per luxury coach. All luggage is stored below in the luggage compartment and the coach is direct (no change). Our Graspoppers can simply relax until they are delivered safely to the festival site.
