TITTA TANI – I feel as clock-human-drummer

Italieneren Titta Tani er en allsidig musiker; han spiller trommer i blant annet Necrophagia og han er vokalist i DGM. Eternal Terror følte at han var en passende bidragsyter til vår Blast Beast serie og det var ikke nei i hans munn da jeg tok kontakt med ham tidligere i år. Titta kunne fortelle at han begynte å spille trommer relativt sent og at han er aktiv i 4 forskjellige band samtidig i tillegg til at han innrømmer at han spiller trommesoloer nå og da.

 
ET – When did you start to play the drums?
TITTA – To be honest I’ve started very in late with my age, I think 23. I started to play with a very thrash band on the way of Testament, Overkill and stuff like that

ET – Why did you start playing drums?
TITTA – I really don’t know, I was very interested in music in general, my uncle gave me the possibility to play his drums and I enjoy it a lot so here I am.

ET – How old were you when you got your first drums/drum set?
TITTA – Fucking shit!!!! Too late at the age of 23 with my retirement salary form the Italian Army, I’ve been in the army for two years.

ET – How often do you practice?
TITTA – Less that I would like because anyway I don’t have so much time to spend for it, I try every time I can because I need to make money so I play a lot live as a singer and drummer. Luckily in this period I became a teacher for a Music school close to Rome so I can play in a cool way.

ET – Which drummer did you look up to when you were young and is there anyone today that you admire more than the rest?
TITTA – I love for the technique and for the musicality Neil Peart from Rush, for their musicality and for the “musical head” Roger Taylor from Queen & Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater, Terry Bozzio for his stunning drumming, Mike Mangini for the GENIUS that is he and for the emotions GENE HOGLAN that for me is one of the best extreme drummers that can play everything!!!!!

ET – What kind of equipment do you use? Which equipment is in your ears the best?
TITTA – I have a TAMA STARCLASSIC MAPLE in Green with 2 – 22” bass drum, one snare 14” x 6” by Gretsch in maple, 2 ring toms 12”-14” and 2 ring floor toms 16”- 18”. I have endorsement for the Sticks made by ROLL (www.rollfactory.it ) and for the Cymbals by UFIP (www.ufip.it ) and I’m very close to make a deal with a drums factory called TAMBURO.

ET – Which qualities do you think is most important to succeed as a drummer today?
TITTA – Mmmm, for myself after done some mistakes I will not play anymore drums part wrote from anyone. Sometimes can happen but I will try to do no more cause I can play stuff wrote from another drummer but not from a keyboard player for example, and anyway I feel as clock-human-drummer.
I’m very into the click and I think is a good quality for a drummer to go straight and heavy at the same time, you know what I mean.
Another 2 quality of my self is the same power regarding the snare, and maybe, I don’t want to be a “poser”, I feel as a complete musician cause I can sing in a very good way, I can play guitar, bass and sometimes in a very bad way the piano.

ET – Have you ever played a solo during a gig?
TITTA – Argh, yes I play solo but never study a real “solo”.
With DAEMONIA, we decide as is the crowd….just a little glance from Claudio and me and we decide to do or not to do.

ET – If you haven’t become a drummer, what would you most likely been doing?
TITTA – A singer 😉

ET – Do you workout a lot?
TITTA – Yes cause I have “DEALS” with a lot of bands here, 6 to be honest….So I bust my ass for my work.

ET – Do you have any special rituals you have to go through before you enter the stage?
TITTA – Some warm-up, eat some shit and have fun the guys of the band

ET – Which releases have you been a part of so far? (Band name, title, release year)
TITTA –
Cool, the first one is “ABOUT ME: THROUGH LIFE AND BEYOND” by ASTRA (www.astraprog.com ), I recorded the drums for 7 songs and the vocals too, the second is DIFFERENT SHAPES by DGM (www.dgmsite.com ) where actually I’m the singer and the new album by ICYCORE (www.icycore.com ) as a singer too…..damn, I work too much as a singer then a drummer!!!!! Ah ah ah ah  ah

TITTA – I think could be my drummer in ASTRA (he replace my role for the live exhibitions and for the next album he will record the drums) FILIPPO BERLINI, he’s a really great drummer, very good teacher, not so HEAVY but a top class drummer so he deserve your space!!!!!!
