Mörk Maskin on the music and the world surrounding the Machine

Mörk Maskin releases “Krossa Ljuset (Club Version) – Remix” on 9 October 2026, bringing a harder kick and a stronger club feel to the original track. The standalone remix arrives ahead of the project’s forthcoming five-track concept EP, “Vi byggde en gud som aldrig drömde om oss.” (“We built a god that never dreamed of us.”).

Electronic drive, distorted guitars and raw screams. Mörk Maskin calls this meeting of sounds Elektro-döds, but behind the music lies a story of the Machine’s rise and humanity’s fall. For Dempa|Död, it begins with music and continues in a world taking shape on the project’s website. More than ten years had passed since Dempa|Död last sang in a band when the desire to make music returned. At the same time, listening to EBM opened a path towards something missing from the personal record collection.

“I found a lot of inspiration when I started listening to EBM, and felt that dark EBM and metal could be a perfect match — something I personally wanted to hear more of.”

Metal remains the starting point. The electronics bring rhythmic momentum, an energy that can make it difficult to stand still. Mörk Maskin brings the two expressions together, with both movement and resistance in the sound.

What is the essence of Elektro-döds for you?

“I don’t actually listen to much electronic music, but when it’s done right, I think it can have a really powerful, driving energy that makes it difficult to stand still. My heart has always belonged to metal, so I wanted to combine the two styles into something with rhythmic drive, distorted guitars and raw screaming.”

What does the Machine represent in the music?

“The electronics represent the Machine, while the guitars and screams represent human resistance. To a large extent, it’s an exploration of what will happen as AI becomes more and more intelligent. How it puts all of humanity at risk, yet we keep pushing ahead because it seduces us and no one wants to be the first to hit the brakes.”

That conflict continues beyond the songs. At morkmaskin.se, a world is being built around the music through images, films and texts. There is also a terminal for anyone who wants to direct their questions to the Machine. Whether it answers as you hope is another matter.

Who Dempa|Död is in relation to that world remains an open question.

Why build a world around the music?

“It depends on what you come looking for as a listener. The music might give you everything you need, or the opposite might be true: the website and the storytelling give you everything you’re interested in. But I think the music and the storytelling together create a stronger, more interesting picture.”

What can listeners expect from the forthcoming EP?

“Mörk Maskin’s forthcoming EP should begin to see the light of day before the end of the year. It will be a five-track concept EP about the Machine’s rise and humanity’s fall. The title, ‘Vi byggde en gud som aldrig drömde om oss.’, describes in itself what humanity did.”

What do you hope stays with people after encountering Mörk Maskin?

“A sense of unease about the future should be there. It’s difficult to predict how the continued development of AI will end. And even if it doesn’t decide to wipe us out, how much of what makes us human will it begin to take over as it solves more and more of the tasks we previously had to handle ourselves?”

The question therefore reaches beyond survival itself. What happens to humanity when more and more of its tasks can be handed over to something else? In Mörk Maskin, that anxiety takes shape through both music and storytelling. But Dempa|Död also leaves room for a more immediate encounter with the songs.

“It’s also music to simply enjoy in whatever way suits you best. Whether that means dancing or screaming along with the choruses is up to each person.”
