Step into the darkness, enter the HOUSE OF WORK. Belgian post-punk band PREKOWSKI announces their debut EP “HOUSE OF WORK”, set for release today, June 12, 2026. The five-piece delivers a raw and unpolished sound that feels lifted straight out of an underground punk or goth basement, while still showing their full live intensity and performance potential.
Although we are only halfway through 2026, it has already been a busy year for the five-piece. Following their band announcement in October 2025, they released their debut single “CONSERVATORY JAZZ, I HATE.”, followed by their second single “HOUSE OF WORK.” Both tracks received praise from radio stations and music magazines. In between live shows, the band announced their upcoming debut EP “HOUSE OF WORK”, which marks their most defined artistic statement to date. Shortly after, PREKOWSKI signed with Belgian booking agency ‘Random Bookings’ and began working with external booker Stien Heyvaert.
Please note PREKOWSKI is written in all capital letters. Always!
About the EP
HOUSE OF WORK, the debut EP from the band PREKOWSKI, is a statement from the whole band.
It is dark and dissonant, with emotional aspects. It is made out of feelings like nostalgia, love, and aggression that run through it. The EP is made to be listened to in whatever way you choose. It is meant to be honest, in music and in lyrics. The EP explores dark and confusing aspects of life. It is meant to touch one’s dark soul. This EP is an invitation to sit with discomfort and find something real inside it, as well as to dance and headbang it out of your system. There is no polish or pretending, only sound, feeling, and presence.
HOUSE OF WORK asks the listener to engage. It does not offer answers. Enjoy the ride.
Recording process
The band started recording the EP on August 10, 2025, under the direction of producer Sergey Steenackers. During this session, they recorded several tracks, of which six were selected for the final EP. It was a day filled with experimentation and following their intuition. The band’s reference tracks included The Birthday Party, Joy Division, Bauhaus, and Morphine. The band combines dissonant free-jazz saxophone played by Gijs De Maeyer with post-punk and Goran Vanhoutte’s modified upright drum kit, adding an original character to the record. Rather than polishing the sound, the producer chose to preserve its rawness and capture the band playing together in the same room. All recordings were kept as live and organic as possible, allowing ambient room sound, amp noise, and background textures to become part of the final mix. This was done to preserve the natural energy and atmosphere of the band.
In a direct tribute to experimental recording techniques, and inspired by the spirit of producer Martin Hannett (Joy Division), a microphone was placed in a washing machine in a separate room. This setup, immediately called “The Washing Machine Mic”, created a natural, unpredictable reverb space that became a distinct textural element in the record, clearly audible in tracks such as “LOOKING FOR EVE.” and “I SEE FUTURE IN YOU.” Following the session, the band recorded additional overdubs including hand claps, snap sounds, and backing vocals by bass player Jarne Vreys and guitarist Wout Vantieghem. Drummer Goran Vanhoutte contributed additional tom overdubs, alongside extra guitar layers. The full band recording and overdubs were completed in just seven hours on the same day. A week later, vocals were re-recorded and final elements were added. Singer Bradley Remorie also added accents using a 1970s Solina organ (Model C). At last some noise elements such as breaking glass and paper noises were layered into the mix for adding depth and tension to the record.
Visual identity by © Jolien Wilke.
The cover art was created by Jolien Wilke, the Belgian “Anton Corbijn”, as the band likes to call her. She has been the band’s loyal graphic designer and photographer since the beginning of the project, responsible for shaping the band’s visual identity.
The artwork picture was accidentally taken during a promotional shoot for the band on October 4, 2026, somewhere between urban city walls and the countryside in West Flanders.
The image carries a mysterious and dark atmosphere, with a slightly illusive, three-dimensional visual effect. It strongly contributes to the band’s overall identity and aesthetic.
What began with early band announcements in 2025 quickly evolved into a defining period for PREKOWSKI. With the release of “HOUSE OF WORK”, the band presents its clearest artistic statement to date, shaped by early singles and growing attention from the Belgian underground scene.
