PREKOWSKI – debut single released

PREKOWSKI, a new Belgian post-punk band, releases their debut single, “CONSERVATORY JAZZ, I HATE.”

The fivesome delivers a raw, unpolished track that feels like it was lifted straight from an underground punk or goth cellar, yet gives the impression it would fit perfectly on live radio.

The influences are immediately clear: The Birthday Party, Bauhaus, Morphine… a cocktail that forms the solid foundation of PREKOWSKI’s sound. One listen quickly leads to this conclusion: a driving bassline kicks off the track, followed by a full-blown explosion of dissonance and chaos. A free-jazz saxophone improvises freely, bringing an element of unpredictability to the song, while the guitar makes sure nothing is missed in the sharp edges of the track. Original tom patterns and creative drum fills glue it all together.

Vocally, you can hear inspiration from a young Nick Cave, Mark E. Smith, and Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy. It can be described as a mix of emotion with screaming aggression to deliver the song’s lyrics. The band wrote the track during one of their first jam sessions, touching on questions many artists

struggle with: can art be studied? How do you preserve your own vision in a world full of rules and luck? When does rebellion provide a solution-and when does it eventually break you, or do you break away from it?

The single is accompanied by a music video that drags viewers into an underground live venue from the ’80s, filled with punks, new wavers, and goths. The visuals capture the energy of the band and the music, tied together through a strong aesthetic vision. Among the leather, spikes, and smudged eyeliner, something emerges that already feels like one of 2026’s most striking collaborations.

Herman Brusselmans, one of Flanders’ most renowned writers of the past decades, makes his music video debut with a cameo as a support act. In an improvisational spoken word performance in the style of John Cooper Clarke,

He sets the tone for the evening before

PREKOWSKI takes over the venue with their new single.

With this debut, PREKOWSKI proves they have a clear vision, both musically and aesthetically. “CONSERVATORY JAZZ,

I HATE.” marks the first taste of their upcoming debut EP, set for release later this year, and positions them as a new voice in the Flemish scene with a promising future ahead.
