MOON MOTHER – new album out

Swedish alternative slowrock & dark folk duo Moon Mother presents their new atmospheric album MEADOWLANDS

on their new haunting album Meadowlands, Moon mother takes the listener on a beautifully raw and emotional journey. Music born in darkness becomes an act of reaching for the light.

Moon Mother is the voice of hope that echoes in the darkness of a starless night to remind you about the coming morning. With an architecture of earthy alternative slowrock and melancholic, atmospheric folk with a nordic vibe, the duo, hailing from a smalltown in western Sweden now opens the door to the second chapter of their musical månrock-saga. With a powerful evolution of their previous sound, the new album Meadowlands is presentented.

Since the release of their debut in 2023, the duo has played frequently around Sweden and many who have seen them live agree that they have witnessed the beginning of something truly special.

With a captivating power and a spellbinding, soulful performance with as much attitude as heart, the duo has left a strong impression on those who have crossed their path.

Coming from different roots musically, something truly unique happens when the down-to-earth folk music and the magnificent, psychedelic landscapes, with a spirit that brings to mind for example Pink Floyd, are mixed with the 90s-vibing grunge attitude of Pat’s guitar playing and then intertwined with Sara’s mysterious poetry, thought-provoking storytelling and wild haunting melodies.

The music is never put into a box but is happily experimented with, which has led to a unique, genre bending symphony that has a dark and doom laden undertone that they themselves call “månrock”. A world of its own where darkness, sadness and grief are woven into glimmers of light and where the vocal expression dances boldly from within its core.

On the new album Meadowlands, recorded and produced in their home, live takes and emotion are in focus. Minimalism with a large expression that has then been intuitively built on to create a raw and powerfully atmospheric soundscape that, with the help of traditional, acoustic instruments such as for example accordion and birch-trumpet with large reverbs, has built an earthy, unique and mysterious ambience. A place where the past meets the present. In the magical world of Meadowlands, the vocals are in the spotlight, surrounded by experimental, string arrangements, grinding acoustic instruments and typical Moon Mother vocalizations, big choirs and the occasional blackbird.

On this album, they have collaborated with drummer Robert Hall and producer Hans Olsson at Svenska Grammofonstudion who put the icing on the cake with a powerful mix and mastering.

The final work Meadowlands is a raw, poignantly beautiful and dark journey through the decay of autumn, the heavy death of winter into spring with its sparkling first sun rays that witness about the immense hope that lives in the human soul.

An enchanting dance between hope and despair born inside the deep caves of grief, isolation, surviving sexual abuse, addiction and intergenerational trauma but still finding hope and meaning to continue fighting.

Those who enter will transcend into the world that is MEADOWLANDS – the place outside, the place within.
