VETERAN SHOEGAZE BAND MONO RELEASE 12TH FULL-LENGTH INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM, ‘OATH’ & CELEBRATE WITH SPECIAL LIVE VIDEO FOR ‘HEAR THE WIND SING’ & ANNOUNCE ORCHESTRAL TOUR OF EU & ASIA
Coinciding with the band’s 25th anniversary, Japanese instrumental rock band MONO have released their 12th album ‘OATH’ via Temporary Residence Ltd. (North America), Pelagic Records (Europe) and New Noise (China).

Drawing as much inspiration from musical peers such as Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine as they do from classical and neo-classical composers including Beethoven, Ennio Morricone and Polish minimalist Henryk Górecki as well as experimental directors like Lars von Trier, MONO originally formed in 1999 and, across four decades, have constantly refined their approach to the marriage of genre-defying contemporary classical orchestration and transcendental guitar soundscapes; rendering it uncategorizable, inimitable and unique.
To mark ‘OATH’s release, MONO have shared a video for ‘Hear The Wind Sing’, the third and final in a series of breathtaking live videos recorded in collaboration with one of the band’s endorsers, effects pedal company EarthQuaker Devices. All three videos, ‘Oath’, ‘Run On’ and ‘Hear The Wind Sing’, were filmed at Electrical Audio during rehearsal for the album’s recording and shot spontaneously, as one continuous, uninterrupted take; capturing the effortlessly beautiful flow of the music.
Recorded and mixed at Electrical Audio in Chicago with the band’s long-time friend and collaborator, the late Steve Albini, ‘OATH’ upholds their harmonious creative relationship; perfectly documenting the four-piece in their element, without compromising any of the raw emotion and sheer, wall-of-sound intensity that has earned the band an awesome reputation as a live band across hundreds and hundreds of live performances around the world.
Guitarist and composer of the band, Taka, comments:
“We are proud to release our new album ‘OATH’. This album is the last original album with our beloved partner Steve Albini, with whom we have worked together for 22 years. A huge thank you to everyone who supports us.
The album ‘OATH’ is about ‘time and life’. We wanted to express the ‘limited time in life’ and the ‘meaning of life’. Our time goes by day by day. What is my goal? What is my purpose? What is the reason I live every day? What can we do? What should we do?
We wanted to learn what we were feeling about time and life, what we have lost and found, and the questions and the answers we discovered during both our good and difficult times. We live with a vow that hasn’t changed since we were children.”
‘OATH’ is out now.
