NERVOUS DECAY – Nervous Decay

The French act Nervous Decay offers energetic death/thrash metal filled with lethal riffs, licks and solos that fly like bullets, crushing mid-tempo passages, and a solid dose of groove. There are plenty of hooks here and some toe-tapping tunes to keep you entertained throughout, but the record is solid and good rather than downright excellent.
The quartet unleash a maelstrom of bulldozing parts and savage-sounding sections and there is a truly dark, murky vibe to the album that definitely works in its favor. Its thick, rumbling bass lines also add a certain depth and heaviness to the affair and these guys sure know how to vary the pace and change things up, which is a huge plus. I like what Nervous Decay are doing and this self-titled debut effort is an interesting and enjoyable listen although it is neither riveting nor utterly remarkable. Having said that, I love its sinister feel and menacing aggression, and its foul aura is nicely illustrated by the relentlessly punishing tracks that are "Mirrors of Pain" and "Doomsday Clock".
This is simply one of those discs that deliver the goods and warrants repeated listens without being outstanding or one for the history books. If old-school death metal (and thrash metal for that matter) is your thing, you ought to give this one a go. Very cool stuff and filled with potential.
