FALSE MEMORIES – The Last Night of Fall

The Italian ensemble known as False Memories dabbles in melodic metal with gothic touches and somewhat subtle doom metal undertones to it, and "The Last Night of Fall" boasts a strong and meaty production that carries punch while the compositions are quite varied and go from mellow and tranquil to thick, heavy, and lofty as hell. Those melancholy melodies that they specialize in are always at the forefront and the whole thing is nicely arranged and also structured in such a way that there is an organic flow to the tunes in relation to each other and also within every song with respect to how the different parts and passages are woven together. Feelings of emptiness course through the LP but there is a shade of dark optimism to be discovered there too.

"The Last Night of Fall" is probably neither the most inventive nor enticing album that you will come across this year, but such gloomy treats as "Rain of Souls" and "Voices" show a talent for crafting tracks with depth and substance to them. It lacks truly mind-blowing, majestic highlights that will sweep you off your feet, but this is a solid offering for sure and full of promise and potential. An interesting goth-tinged metal opus that consists of a good and potent combination of devastating riffs, grandiose keyboards, and emotive vocals.
