The talented Norwegian villains collectively known as Spidergawd are back and this fifth hard-hitting musical assault of theirs will undoubtedly thrill you to bits if you dig gut-punching hard rock with bluesy undertones and wickedly cool saxophones to it.
The ensemble’s energetic tunes are as instantly catchy as they are dynamic and "V" contains plenty of huge choruses and climactic riffs that reek of raw and sweaty rock ‘n’ roll all the way through. The cool thing about this one is that it totally sounds as if these guys have been crafting and performing music together for ages, which is partly due to the confidence and swagger that permeate the songs, but also the rather developed songwriting skills and the way in which the band conjure up and maintain a thrilling sense of the unpredictable from start to finish. Not that many outfits have a dangerous edge to them nowadays, but Spidergawd are definitely an exception and one could be forgiven for thinking that one is listening to a lost gem from the glorious 70s. The warm production also lends a certain power and bombast to the proceedings and I fucking applaud the fact that Spidergawd come across as so organic and vibrant on this awesome record of theirs. In other words, it sounds like a band jamming together in some filthy garage somewhere and having the time of their lives doing just that.
There are traces of such diverse acts as Motorhead, Alice Cooper, Beastmilk (Grave Pleasures), Queens of the Stone Age, Pentagram, and Iggy and the Stooges here and there, but ultimately, Spidergawd have a musical identity of their own and a unique sound that is pretty damn endearing and infectious. For a teaser, check out "Twentyfourseven", "Green Eyes", or "Whirlwind Rodeo" and I swear that you will want to listen to the rest of the album following either one of those three cuts. This is raunchy and groovy hard rock at its most explosive!
