PLEASURE AGONY – Pleasure Agony

The German outfit named Pleasure Agony released this self-titled album of theirs sometime last year. Musically, the band is rooted in modern thrash metal with lots of groovy and bouncy parts to it. In terms of riffs and melodies and so on, everything is rather straightforward and easy to digest. There are no convoluted arrangements or insane musical wizardry going on here at all. Even the guitar leads are somewhat simple and catchy, which is cool. The songs contain quite a few memorable and catchy parts, but the vocals are downright horrible. I can barely make it through the second song, the one entitled "Face the Mask". It is a damn shame that they are so godawful, because there are some interesting ideas present on the album, but it is impossible to overlook or ignore just how annoying the vocals are. Whether we are talking about the clean vocals or the aggressive ones, the fact of the matter is that they have absolutely no power or bite to them and are the major drawback of this 13-track effort.
If modern thrash metal and groove metal appeal to you then I can only state that there are way better alternatives out there than this one by Pleasure Agony. Like I said, some of the riffs and melodies are pretty cool, but in the overall perspective this is one of those releases that leave me with pretty much nothing. Hopefully the next one will feature much better and more convincing vocals.
