SLEGEST – Vidsyn

The sinister and ugly Norwegian metal outfit known as Slegest is back on the map with a brand new onslaught of rotten, catchy, and doomy music. This 2016 release, which is entitled "Vidsyn", is without a shadow of doubt the most concise, sharp, and entertaining output by the band yet. Compared to its predecessor, "Vidsyn" is solid from start to finish and never loses momentum.
The eight hellish hymns that comprise "Vidsyn" are all well-crafted and delightfully intense. The band as a whole sounds more confident and mature somehow, which is not only down to the fact that the songs are stronger and more memorable than ever before, but also because the cool interplay between the different band members is pronounced and awesome. The whole affair sounds focused, and the production is near-perfect for Slegest’s mean, nasty, and caustic blend of black metal, doom metal, stoner rock, and old-school thrash metal. The tracks are all groovy and heavy, which is to say that these fuckers couldn’t give a rat’s ass about being all technical or playing fast just for the sake of playing fast or any of that stuff. The emphasis is firmly on writing great songs that will simultaneously attract and appall you.
While the musicianship is excellent, the real strength of the album lies in the quality of the songs themselves. Dripping with atmosphere and full of spite, "Vidsyn" contains quality music straight from the cold and soulless heart, just the way some of us twisted fucks like it. If such diverse bands as Black Sabbath, Darkthrone, Witchcraft, and Vreid appeal to you, you need to check "Vidsyn" out. Highly recommended.
