DEAD COWBOY’S SLUTS – Obedience

"Obedience" is my first encounter with the French modern sounding thrash metal outfit known as Dead Cowboy’s Sluts. To my rotten ears, these guys incorporate quite a few metalcore influences as well, but mostly they just bring to mind bands such as Machine Head, Pantera, Pissing Razors, and Devildriver. I haven’t listened to the band’s first album, the one entitled "The Hand of Death", but "Obedience" consists of twelve generic and mediocre tunes that are technically well-executed, but in terms of atmosphere and imaginative songwriting they go nowhere. The band is tight and they can certainly handle their instruments properly, but the songs simply bore me to pieces and do nothing for me. The whole thing feels derivative and uninteresting, and it is neither entertaining nor memorable. Fans of the genre might find "Obedience" appealing, but unfortunately, I just have to pass on this one. Even after repeated listening, I am left eerily unmoved.
