IMAGES AT TWILIGHT – Kings

Images at Twilight first got my real attention at this year’s Blastfest, as one of the bands I made a note in big letters to check out further when returning from the festival. I did have the album on my playlist for a review, but never really got around to it.

A couple of weeks on repeated listening, one thing is for certain, "Kings" is a mighty piece of work that requires time and patience…This complex piece of art is best enjoyed late at night, with expensive headphones, but it is definitely not for the faint-hearted…

Images at Twilight consists of experienced musicians from more or less known bands in the extreme metal scene in Norway, and knowing main man André Aaslie´s facination for Saga, it’s not difficult to guess where the band name origins from…

I hear inspiration from various band’s like Bal-Sagoth, Carach Angren, Emperor and Hidden In The Fog in Images at Twilight’s music, and it’s like the best of all worlds has been mixed into an epic and overwhelming soundtrack to the apocalypse. At the same time it’s almost impossible to catch everything that is going on at first, but as with most of my favourite artists, patience is rewarded.

Another thing that stands out is the way the orchestration is incorporated into the music. It’s haunting and epic, but never over the top, and the music flows without unnecessary use of these elements. In addition, the guitars are flawless, the drums relentless, and the vocals convincing in every aspect. If you have any interest at all in the bands mentioned earlier you have only one option! Further comments not needed…
